Snooker’s new Evergrande China Championship took place for the first time in 2016, as an invitation event. It was staged in the city of Guangzhou in the Guangdong Province of South East China. John Higgins beat Stuart Bingham 10-7 in the final.
From 2017, it will become a world ranking event, contested by 128 players. Total prize money for the 2017 edition will be £700,000 with the winner’s cheque at £150,000. The qualifying round will take place in Preston from June 3-7.
World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn said: “We are thrilled to be working with the promoter Evergrande and the CBSA on this event. Our global calendar gets busier every season and this is a major addition. Alongside our partners in China we’re creating a very bright future for our sport.”
