Welsh Open Snooker History
The Welsh Open made its debut on the snooker calendar back in 1992, when Stephen Hendry beat Darren Morgan, making this the longest running ranking event apart from the World and UK Championship.

Originally held in Newport, the tournament made it's return to Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena in 2015 for the first time since 2003.

Mark Williams is the only Welsh player to win the event having triumphed back in 1996 and 1999 while John Higgins and Ronnie O'Sullivan hold the record for the most titles with four.

In 2017 it became part of the inaugural Home Nations series along with the English, Northern Ireland and Scottish Opens, with Stuart Bingham getting his hands on what was now known as the Ray Reardon Trophy thanks to a thrilling 9-8 win over Judd Trump.
