Stuart Bingham Beat Mei Xiwen 5-1 at World Open

Stuart Bingham swept aside Mei Xiwen 5-1 at World Open qualifying in Preston to book his place at the final stages in Yushan.

The 2015 World Champion has enjoyed a strong showing at this week’s qualifying, having already progressed in the Indian Open and European Masters.

Bingham made a century break of 105 in the second last frame and then had the opportunity for a maximum. He deposited the opening 10 reds with blacks as he bid to close out the match in style, before breaking down on 80.

Dominic Dale secured a straightforward 5-0 victory over fellow Welshman Jackson Page.

The teenager Page was celebrating his 16th birthday, however Dale was in no mood for sentiment as he secured the 5-0 whitewash. Along the way he compiled breaks of 70 and 55 on his way to victory.

Oliver Lines saw off China’s Chen Zifan 5-2, as he booked his place in Yushan. The 22-year-old looked to be in good touch as he compiled breaks of 109, 68 and 67. The century run which came in the third frame was his first in over a year of competitive action, having failed to compile one last season.

Gary Wilson overcame Nigel Bond 5-1 to clinch his spot in the final stages. The potter from Newcastle, who made his first crucible appearance last season, made breaks of 67 and 58 on his way to the victory.

China’s Yu Delu defeated fellow countryman Zhang Yong 5-2. It was a second victory of the week for Yu, who also sealed a place in the final stages of the Indian Open, but failed to qualify for the European Masters.
