The Main Snooker Draw started on a rather chaotic note. There was a school function and the players were left waiting for their turn at the table for well over 2 hours. To cap it all, the fragile electricity played hide and seek with the National players.
Such interruptions can obviously play havoc in any sport, more so in snooker where concentration is of paramount importance.
When Dharmender Lily started his match against Hitesh Sethi, referee Ajay Rastogi jokingly told him to wrap it up fast as the schedule had gone haywire. Lily promptly obliged when he sent his opponent packing inside 40 minutes on the draught.
Lily, a veteran in cue sports, is in devising form in this Nationals and his first outing is an indication. He made two breezy runs of 71 and 76 during his brief encounter.
Varun Madan struggled to beat Dr. Khizar Raoof in a cliff hanger resulting in Varun winning 3 - 2 (60, 33), (15, 71), (68, 45), (45, 56) and (65, 33).
Lucky Vatnani managed to beat Rahil Bhat (88, 29) registering a break of 51 and then lost the 2nd frame at 39, 59 to level at 1 -1. Then he came back in his own registering sterling break of 74 to win it 94, 0. He won the 4th frame 66, 36 to settle the issue at a frame score of 3 - 1.
Kamal Chawla, in his first outing, beat Arjun Dhivan 3 - 0 (61, 12) (64, 17) and (60 10). Chawla was not in his groove and managed to put it across to his opponent.
Malkeet Singh beat Ankit Kumar 3 - 0 (60, 19), (67, 1), (55, 14) making a break 58 in the second frame. Ketan Chawla put it across Vinod Karker in straight sets 3 - 0 (66, 23), (68, 23) and (64, 22).
Devendra Joshi was laborious in trouncing Jaswinder Singh 3 - 1 (65, 51), (52, 56), (63, 16), (95, 29) while Himanshu Jain beat Bhargav Lakhar 3 - 1 (81, 17), (50, 55), (59, 45) and (74, 1).
