Chang Bingyu has been named News Personality of the Day by one of China’s biggest media outlets, following an incident in his match against Shaun Murphy at the 19.com English Open.

In the opening frame of the match on Monday, Chang accidentally played a push shot as he attempted to pot a red while on a break of 19. He immediately owned up to the foul to the referee.

The incident was reported by news website PearVideo.com and has been viewed nine million times, while the topic on social media giant Weibo has a staggering 170 million impressions.

Chang, who is aged 17 and playing on the World Snooker Tour for the first time this season, was praised for his sportsmanship and named News Personality of the Day by Voice of China and China Media Group (Central Radio & Television General Station).
