HAWKS SWOOPS TO 147 IN YORK

Barry Hawkins made the third 147 of his career in the first round of the Betway UK Championship on Wednesday.

The break came during the fourth frame of Hawkins’ match against Gerard Greene and put him 4-0 ahead. The Londoner had made breaks of 91, 68 and 80 in the first three frames.

He is in line for the £15,000 tournament high break prize if the maximum is not equaled over the next 12 days.

The break also triggers a £10,000 donation from tournament sponsor Betway to Charity Jessie May Children’s Hospice at Home.

World number ten Hawkins made his first 147 at a Players Tour Championship event in 2010 and second at the 2015 Championship League.

It’s the 16th maximum in the UK Championship and first since Mark Allen’s in 2016. It’s the 155th maximum in snooker history and fourth of the season after two from Tom Ford and one from Stuart Bingham. If there are 20 or more during the season then the player's makings the 147s will share a bonus of £1 million.
