Judd Trump in Early Control of Group 4 in Championship League
Judd Trump is guaranteed a semi-final berth in Group 4 of the Championship League after continuing his love affair with the competition on Wednesday.
The three-time champion won all four of his round-robin fixtures. while also being awarded another walkover victory after the withdrawal of Mark Allen, to sit pretty at the top of the league table following day one’s action.
Trump lost only a single frame and compiled a hat-trick of centuries as he overcame Ali Carter, Liang Wenbo, Shaun Murphy, and Tom Ford in a comprehensive fashion.
Barry Hawkins, who was denied a place in the Winners’ Group with his defeat to Mark Selby in the final of Group 2, also looked strong as he recorded three wins from three to lie in second place overnight – alongside Murphy who also boasts three points so far.
Liang currently holds onto the fourth and final semi-final qualification spot but Ford and Carter can still turn things around with a number of games still scheduled to be played in the league phase on Thursday.
Ford’s 139 against Murphy stands as the highest break of the event so far.
