Judd Trump wants more consistency in his performances
Judd Trump admits he wants more consistency in his performances and results as he looks ahead to a packed schedule in the coming weeks.
World number five Trump competes in the China Championship in Guangzhou next week, then heads to Lommel in Belgium where he will be trying to win the D88.com European Masters for the third year in a row
He beat Stuart Bingham 9-7 in the final in Lommel last year, his eighth career ranking title, but has not added to his collection of silverware in the past 11 months. So far this season he has reached the last 32 of the Yushan World Open, losing to Gary Wilson, and lost his opening match against Kyren Wilson at the Shanghai Masters.
“I know if I play well I have a good chance to win any match, but I hope to win some matches when I am not at my best,” said the 29-year-old. “The tour is so strong and you can’t play well all the time. I want to see if I can be more solid and consistent.
“I have only played two tournaments so far this season. I’m not sure what form I am in, so any run in any tournament would be great.”
Trump first won the European Masters in Romania in 2016 and will be aiming for a hat-trick this time in Lommel, something he has never achieved before.
“It’s very hard to win any event three years in a row now, because there are so many good players,” said the left-hander. “I just want to play well and if I can achieve that it would be a great bonus. I look forward to it very much, it’s always good to defend a title. Stuart Bingham beat me in the Welsh Open final last year so it was good to get one back on him in Lommel.”
Also competing in Belgium will be the likes of World Champion Mark Williams, world number one Mark Selby, Neil Robertson, John Higgins, Kyren Wilson and home favourite Luca Brecel.
