Many Many Happy Returns of the Day Kamal Chawla

Beginning of Career 

Ace snooker player Kamal Chawla of Bhopal, started playing the Green Baze with Billiards when he was 16-years old at B.H.E.L. Senior Club, Bhopal. His father Sh.C.L. Chawla, was posted in B.H.E.L. at that time. Kamal’s elder brother Gagan Chawla was also a snooker player and used to play Billiards occasionally. One day Gagan took Kamal to the Club and motivated him to play Billiards and guided him to make Stance. From that day Kamal started his journey in the field of Billiards &Snooker and never saw back till his International career. His elder brother still motivates him like he did on the first day of the club.

Become M.P.State Champion 

With regular practice and support of the family Kamal decided to choose Billiards as his career. It’s the regular guidance of Sh. S.K. Kodesia {former UP State Champion in his young days} guided & motivated him regularly that in one year time Kamal became Junior State no. 4 of M. P. in Billiards and then was just a start for Kamal next year he made a record by winning both the titles of M.P. Junior Billiards & Snooker category for next 3years. At the end of his juniors he won both Junior & Senior Titles together. The snooker fans of the state had confidence that this lad would bring laurels for the state and Kamal did not disappoint them by achieving several fete State and National Level.

Kamal stood 4th in Junior National Championship due to which he got the opportunity to participate in Junior World Snooker Championship-2000. Next year Kamal stretched everyone’s focus by cementing his place in top 8 of Senior National Championship. Within 5 to 6 years Kamal became an eminent player of snooker in the country. He was known for defeating many renowned players of the country in almost all the tournaments. Kamal showed his presence by winning many big tournaments. He is a known for his aggressive game; this quality makes him special from others.

Identity at National Level

A time came when Kamal was compelled to choose either snooker or billiards as he can’t go far with both the games, so he decided to focus on snooker. In the year 2008 he entered finals of National 8-ball Pool Championship for the first time but couldn’t make it. He won Bronze in nationals in the year 2009 and 2010 in Snooker Nationals.
In the year 2010, First 6-Red Snooker National Championship was organised at Bangalore, where in Kamal succeeded to achieve Bronze medal. Kamal stood fifth in 2011 Snooker National. In Second 6-Red Snooker National Championship he won Silver medal. But in the year 2012, Kamal again succeeded in making history, he became the first player of Madhya Pradesh to enter finals of Senior National Snooker Championship and won Silver medal.

International Career

It took long time for Kamal to enter senior team after playing Junior World Snooker Championship. After tough period of 9-years and facing various ups and downs in his career, ultimately Kamal succeeded in making his place in India Senior team. He got opportunity to participate in IBSF World Snooker Championship - 2009. His dream to don his country color became true in 2009 and by his stunning performance, he is the only player of India who entered Quarter Finals of the World Snooker Championship-2009. In the year 2011, Kamal won Bronze medal in First 6-Red Snooker Asian Championship at Thailand in Feb-2011and brought first medal of International level in Snooker for India. Kamal missed the Medal by losing in Quarter-Finals in ACBS Asian Snooker Championship at Indore in April -2011 but he strongly came back and made Bhopal & Madhya Pradesh proud by Winning Bronze medal [World No.3] for the country in IBSF World Snooker Championship in Dec-2011. Recently in June-2012 Kamal made another history of being a player from Madhya Pradesh by winning International Title in the ASCA Asian International Invitation Snooker event at Chennai.
