Marco Fu registered his first tour victory since a layoff due to eye problems, defeating Elliot Slessor 4-1 at Kaspersky Riga Masters qualifying in Preston.
The three-time ranking event winner missed several months of 2017/18 campaign after he underwent laser eye treatment for retinal degeneration. He made his return at the World Championship, but lost out at the first hurdle to qualifier Lyu Haotian.
Fu lost the opening frame this afternoon, but from there he didn’t look back. He swept up four frames on the bounce, making breaks of 77 and 59 along the way.
Zhao Xintong produced a blistering display to sweep Jimmy Robertson aside in a 4-0 whitewash.
The Chinese 21-year-old was relegated from the World Snooker Tour last season, but bounced back immediately through Q School. Today, he had an average shot time of just 15.7 seconds and hammered in contributions of 88, 73 and 86 on his way to victory.
Belgium’s Luca Brecel defeated Allan Taylor 4-2. While Jack Lisowski had no problems negotiating Fan Zhengyi 4-1.
