O Sullivan, Selby, Shaun and Trump Ease Through

Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump both enjoyed comfortable wins on day two of the Coral English Open in Manchester.

O’Sullivan faced Jimmy Robertson in front of a packed crowd on table one and he provided a quick-fire performance, winning 4-0 in just under an hour. The Rocket made runs of 97, 55, 63 and 66 in the rout.

Trump also produced a strong showing, as he saw off 1997 World Champion Ken Doherty 4-1. The Juddernaught looked to be continuing his good form after winning the European Masters. He made runs of 71, 64, and 56 to charge 3-0 ahead. Despite a contribution of 75 in the fourth frame, Doherty couldn’t overturn the deficit, as Trump ran out a 4-1 winner.

In a repeat of the 2015 China Open final Mark Selby defeated Gary Wilson. On that occasion Selby put on a dominant display, winning 10-2, this match followed a similar course. The World Champion made runs of 69, 47 and 44 during a 4-0 win.

World number 4 Shaun Murphy wasted no time to beat Chen Zhe 4-0 in his first round match. Murphy will lock horns with another Chinese challenger Liang Wenbo in second round encounter. Liang Wenbo crushed Graeme Dott 4-0 in his first round match.

Things weren’t quite as straightforward for John Higgins. He was locked at 2-2 in his match with world number 95 Michael Wild, but found his form at the right time to emerge a 4-2 winner.

In another close match Barry Hawkins beats Jack Lisowski 4-3. Hawkins was ahead in the match by 3-1 but Jack shows good quality of snooker and leveled the match at 3-3. Hawkins took the decider to reach round 2. Mark Davis defeated Tian Pengfei by 4-1 to enter the IInd round.

Dominic Dale was not in his form in round one match and lost to David Grace by 2-4. Andrew Higginson beat Nigel Bond in one of the upset of round one by 4-1.Ricky Walden easily came through his first round match against Robin Hull by 4-1.

Yan Bingtao joined his fellow Chinese player in round two by defeating Sanderson Lam 4-2. Scott Donaldson beats Sean O’Sullivan by 4-2. Mark Allen beats Jamie Curtis-Barrett by 4-1.

Fraser Patrick defeated Zak Surety 4-1 to enter round two and will meet James Wattana in round two. Marco Fu also enters the IInd round by defeating Martin O’Donnell in a close match by 4-3. Tom Ford beats Rory McLeod 4-2 to win his first round match.

Robbie Williams was not good enough against Fergel O’Brien and lost 0-4.In a very nail biting match Allister Carter defeated Luca Brecel 4-3.Ben Woollaston beats Cao Yupeng 4-1 to enter second round. Rod Lawler also qualifies for second round after beating Yu De Lu 4-1.

 

 

Mei Xi Wen beats Darryl Hill by 4-1 frames.Neil Robertson easily came through his first round match against Hamza Akbar by 4-1. Duane Jones blanked Mike Dunn in his first round match and wins by 4-0. Noppon Saengkham upsets Michael Georgiou easily by 4-1. Michael Holt also lost his first round match against Xiao Guodong by 1-4.

Anthony McGill easily beats Jamie Cope by 4-2. Rhys Clark gets the walkover from Jamie Jones. Hammad Miah lost to David Gilbert 4-1 in another first round match. Peter Lines also enters the second round by defeating Paul S Davison. He will now meet David Gilbert.

The moment of the day came in the evening session, as Alfie Burden made the first maximum break of his career. Burden made a 147 in the sixth frame against Daniel Wells to force a decider but he lost the decider and bowed out 4-3.
