Jimmy White has been relegated from the World Snooker tour following a 10-7 defeat to Jack Lisowski in the First Qualifying Round of the 2017 World Championship in Sheffield on Friday.

The 54-year-old, who turned professional in 1980, saw his hopes of a fairy-tale return to The Crucible crushed at Ponds Forge by the Cheltenham youngster.

Despite a string of resurgent displays this season, Jimmy White surrenders his Tour Card and will either have to enter Qualifying School or rely on an honorary wildcard if he is to feature on the circuit next season.

The opening 14 frames of a nail-biting contest were shared, before Lisowski reeled off the final three to book his place in the Second Qualifying Round.

White had rolled back the years with breaks of 122 and 93 in the opening session, but it was Lisowski who forged a slender 5-4 advantage.

White, a six-time world finalist, took the first two frames of the evening session to hit the front, but only for Lisowski to return the favour and make it 7-6.

Breaks of 68 and 54 pulled Jimmy White back on level terms, but they were to be his last contributions as Lisowski took the next three frames without reply to set up a meeting with Peter Ebdon.

Ebdon, the 2002 World Champion, safely advanced courtesy of a 10-3 victory over Michael Wild with high breaks of 119, 71, 66 and 62.

The major shock of the day saw world number 31 Robert Milkins crash out at the hands of Switzerland's Alexander Ursenbache.

Ursenbache, an amateur top-up, pulled off the biggest win of his career as he pressed home a 5-1 advantage and fended off a late revival from the seven-time Crucible qualifier.

Milkins kicked off the match with an ominous century, but struggled from there on in as Ursenbache helped himself to high breaks of 82, 77 and 75 in claiming a memorable scalp.

There was to be no such drama for former German Masters champion Martin Gould as he secured his progression with a 10-2 rout of Thai veteran James Wattana.

Four-time ranking event semi-finalist Mark Davis recorded an impressive 10-3 victory over last year's Crucible debutant Mitchell Mann with a pair of century breaks along the way.

Yan Bingtao produced a stunning fightback from 8-4 down with six consecutive frames to knock out fellow emerging star Sam Craigie in a high quality affair.

Robbie Williams maintained his record of having never lost a match at Ponds Forge as he thrashed James Cahill for the loss of just one frame, while John Astley overcame Igor Figueiredo 10-7.

China's Yu Delu whitewashed Brazil's Itaro Santos 10-0, while Welsh Open semi-finalist Scott Donaldson cruised to a 10-2 defeat of Wang Yuchen.

Alan McManus, a semi-finalist twelve months ago, leads Kurt Dunham 5-1 after being pulled off three frames early while Rod Lawler suffered a similar fate as he leads Xu Si 4-2.

Among the others in action were Fergal O'Brien and Joe Swail, with the Irish duo trailing 5-4 to Gerard Greene and Sanderson Lam respectively.

Northern Ireland's Swail is another in desperate need of positive results in order to survive on the tour.
