Ronnie O'Sullivan beat Shaun Murphy : World Championship

Ronnie O'Sullivan stormed into the Quarter-Finals of the 2017 World Championship after a commanding 13-7 victory over Shaun Murphy at The Crucible on Saturday.

The five-time World Champion pressed home a 10-6 overnight lead to close out an impressive triumph over his rival and set up a meeting with either Ding Junhui or Liang Wenbo on Tuesday.

O'Sullivan had launched an emotional tirade towards the snooker authorities following his First Round win over Gary Wilson but let his cue do the talking in trademark fashion against the world number five.

"I'm just trying to hold it together mentally," O'Sullivan told BBC Sport. "I want to just focus on snooker and enjoy the event because that's the most important thing.

"I had six or seven weeks of practice for this tournament which is something I haven't had in years.

"I feel younger now than I did when I came here 25 years ago.’’

"I'll keep going right to the end and see what happens. ‘’

"It's 17 days out of the year that aren't fun. I struggle mentally and this finds you out more than any other place," he added.

A pulsating start to the contest on Thursday saw 'The Rocket' carve out a 6-2 advantage with high breaks of 91, 75, 128, 76 and 74.

Despite breaks of 84, 73 and 87, Murphy was left to rue crucial missed chances when the pair resumed on Friday as they shared the next eight frames to leave O'Sullivan with a 10-6 cushion.

O'Sullivan came out firing on Saturday with a 67 break to extend his lead, before Murphy edged frame 18 with a break of 55 to stop the rot.

However, Masters champion O'Sullivan was in no mood to go to a mid-session interval and duly killed off the game with a stunning break of 111 and a 55 to follow.

O'Sullivan has now reached at least the Quarter-Final stage of the sport's show-piece event in 18 of his 25 visits to Sheffield.
