TOP STARS THROUGH TO DORNBIRN
The final stages of the BetVictor European Masters in Dornbirn, Austria, will feature six of the world’s top nine players as Mark Williams, Mark Selby, Neil Robertson, John Higgins, Kyren Wilson, and Ding Junhui all made it through the second qualifying round in Barnsley on Thursday.
However there were surprise defeats for Shaun Murphy, who went down 5-2 against Alfie Burden, and Mark Allen who was white-washed 5-0 by China’s Lu Ning.
The world ranking event will run from January 22 to 26 and will be staged for the first time in Dornbirn, which is in the west of Austria, close to the borders with Germany and Switzerland. Tickets are on sale – for details click here
Selby, who won last week’s Scottish Open, kept his streak going as he came from 2-1 down to beat Jimmy White 5-2 with a top break of 82.
Williams top scored with 60 in a 5-0 defeat of Eden Sharav while Higgins saw off Yuan Sijun 5-2 with a top break of 62.
UK Champion Ding compiled runs of 104 and 105 in a 5-3 victory over Peter Ebdon while Wilson made an 84 in a 5-1 defeat of Chen Zifan. Robertson made breaks of 100 and 115 in a 5-3 win over Gerard Greene.
Scottish Open runner-up Jack Lisowski went down 5-4 against 18-year-old tour rookie Jackson Page. Lisowski came from 4-0 down to 4-4, only for Welshman Page to win the decider with breaks of 26 and 44.
Thailand’s Thepchaiya Un-Nooh edged out Luo Honghao 5-4 in a match which featured two centuries and seven more breaks over 50. Un-Nooh led 3-0 with a top break of 112 then Luo hit back to 4-4 with a top run of 131. But it was Shoot Out champion Un-Nooh who secured his place in Austria with an 85 in the decider.
David Lilley top-scored with 102 in an impressive 5-0 win over Ryan Day while Germany’s Lukas Kleckers was beaten 5-2 by Xiao Guodong. Liang Wenbo came from 3-1 down to beat Stuart Bingham 5-4 with a top run of 121.
