URSENBACHER REACHES FINAL DAY IN WIGAN
Alexander Ursenbacher defeated Si Jiahui 4-1 to reach the last 16 of Q School event three in Wigan.
Switzerland’s Ursenbacher dropped off the tour at the end of last season. However, the 23-year-old has displayed his potential in the professional ranks with some strong showings, most notably a superb run to the semi-finals of the 2017 English Open.
China’s exciting 16-year-old prospect Si remains in contention to earn professional status this week. He currently leads the Order of Merit, from which the four best-placed players not to qualify automatically will gain a two-year tour card.
Si will need to rely on other results going his way. While Ursenbacher requires two victories tomorrow to secure an immediate return to the World Snooker Tour.
Ursenbacher will now face Chinese former professional Fang Xiongman, who defeated Finland’s former Shoot Out winner Robin Hull 4-2.
Allan Taylor came back from 3-2 down to defeat Pakistan’s Hamza Akbar 4-3, as he aims for an immediate return to the professional ranks after relegation last season. While 17-year-old Kayden Brierley is now just two games away from the World Snooker Tour after whitewashing former professional Christopher Keogan 4-0.
